3 Ways to Tell Your Vehicle Is at the End of Its Life

Mar 28, 2024

Vehicles last longer nowadays. According to The Zebra, owners have increased the average length of their ownership by 60% over the last decade. This is for both new and used vehicles. But as durable as they are, there will still come a time when the vehicle will reach the end of its life. Here are three ways that you can tell that you have arrived at that moment and not even auto body repair can help.

1. You Hear Strange Noises

When it comes to anything mechanical, a decent rule of thumb is that if you hear strange noises coming from it, it's never a good thing. When your vehicle is making those noises instead of running smoothly, then you're going to need to have a professional take a look at it before you declare it to be dead. You will probably be able to make that proclamation as well.

2. You Have Trouble Starting It

If you feel like you have to pray that your vehicle starts up each time you get in, then chances are good that you're going to need a new vehicle fairly soon. Also, if your engine sounds pretty bad when you finally get it to start, then you need to bring your vehicle to a service station soon. The result may be that you need to get a new vehicle.

3. It's Always Leaking Fluids

This goes beyond any auto body repair work. Your vehicle has various fluids in it to ensure that it keeps running like it should. This includes motor oil, brake fluids, and radiator fluids. If you keep seeing different colored fluids underneath, then you're putting yourself at risk each time you go out. A new vehicle won't have these problems.

A couple of other signs include the vehicle acting sluggishly. If you notice that you can't even navigate small hills without having to give it a little extra power, it may be time to get a new vehicle. Another sign is the constant warning lights on your dashboard. These things can mean that you're going to be in the market for a new vehicle much sooner than later.
